Scott Miller

Feisty, funny singer/guitar-slinger Scott Miller is not a simple study; he manages the family cattle farm in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, but he also has a degree in Russian and Soviet Studies from William & Mary and tours the country as an esteemed singer/songwriter. Miller was a member of the V-Roys – the first band signed to Jack Emerson and Steve Earle’s label – and later a member of the band The Commonwealth. He toured for some time with renowned old-time fiddler Rayna Gellert (Uncle Earl), and they released an album together (“CoDependents” in 2012). Miller has released numerous solo albums, including more recently for his own label, F.A.Y. Recordings.

Ellen Starski

Ellen Starski was born and raised in the woodlands of Western Pennsylvania, amidst the beauty of rural Appalachia. “Growing up, music was all around me – everybody in my family sang. My grandmother sang in musical theater and the violinists and banjo players of my family go back generations.” It wasn’t till after she had her daughter Maré that she felt the strength to really dig into her own inspirations – musically and lyrically. “I couldn’t have done the album without her,” she says of Maré. “She made me realize I had to be myself. She made me a little more bold, actually.”

“I was blown away by her voice and the lyrics. She can sing like Janis Joplin – she has those kind of vocal chops – but here she chooses to sing like Ellen Starski. She has found her own voice.” Anne McCue
